Well. I have to say, this is intimidating. The rest of the site is static, so it’s pretty straightforward — write the content, edit it to within an inch of its life, and I’m done. But THIS. This is different. This is the tabula rasa, the first page of my story, the trail I blaze in hopes of changing the world… Aw, who am I kidding? It’s just a blog.
In case it isn’t obvious, I’ve never had a blog before. (Hell, I’ve never even had a website before. Welcome to the twenty-first century, Noelle!) So I feel obligated to post some sort of blog manifesto — to set expectations. Here we go!
My goals are:
- To make you laugh.
- To make you think.
- To help you learn.
Hopefully I’ll go three for three, most of the time.
What you can expect:
Posts about editing, writing, freelancing, entrepreneurship, and whatever else catches my fancy. There will be at least a smidgen of profanity, because I’m a fairly profane person, but I’ll try to keep it from being excessive. There will probably also be cats.
What you won’t see:
The minutiae of my personal life (except where it intersects with the main goals of the blog).
A torrent of new posts every few days. I am (apparently) a rare breed of editor — I adore polishing other people’s writing, but I don’t really enjoy writing, myself. I’ll explain why in a future post.
Politics, religion, or anything else that tends to foment social unrest and cause bad feelings (contentious grammar concepts excluded).
What I’d like from you:
Feedback. Tell me about the things you love, the things you hate, the things that you feel are just a tiny bit off the mark. Send me an email if you don’t feel comfortable leaving a comment. Help me make this blog something you want to read, because I don’t want to expend a plethora of time and effort writing blog posts — only to be met with radio silence.
I want to write stuff you want to read, and I’d love it if you’d help me figure out what that is.
So, what do you think of this website? What do you want to know about me? What do you wish you knew about writing or editing? What about the English language completely mystifies you? What do you need a better understanding of? (Do you think I just discredited myself by ending a sentence with a preposition, perhaps?)
Leave me a comment and let me have it!
